The Girls in STEM Mentorship Program continues to inspire and empower young girls to break barriers and explore the exciting worlds of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This week’s session was all about Robotics, a pivotal topic designed to challenge the girls’ problem-solving abilities, nurture their STEM interests, and dismantle stereotypes associated with gender and STEM careers.
The day began with eager anticipation as the mentees gathered for their bi-weekly meeting with mentors. Divided into two groups, they were presented with robotics kits and tasked with assembling robots to solve specific challenges. The room buzzed with focus, creativity, and teamwork as the girls enthusiastically tackled their tasks.
Our dedicated mentors provided guidance and encouragement throughout the session, ensuring the girls felt confident and capable of completing their projects. Every moment of excitement and discovery was documented by Lydia and Akoto, whose videos will serve as lasting reminders of this milestone.
At the end of the session, several mentees reflected on their experiences:
-
Efua, who initially dreamt of a career in fashion, shared how the program inspired her to pursue engineering instead. “The career path I would like to choose is engineering,” she said with confidence.
-
Eureka highlighted the impact of the program on her academic journey. “I have improved in mathematics and science and am now more active in both subjects,” she shared, beaming with pride.
-
Martha reminisced about her favorite experience—participating in last year’s science fair. “I loved seeing so many schools come together to share and learn,” she said, reflecting on the exposure and learning opportunities the program offers.
Robotics Day not only introduced the mentees to the exciting world of technology but also gave them a sense of accomplishment and belonging in STEM. Their smiles, enthusiasm, and heartfelt words underscored the transformative impact of the mentorship program—not just on their career aspirations but also on their confidence to tackle real-world challenges.
We are so proud of our mentees and look forward to sharing more updates as we nurture the next generation of women leaders in STEM. Stay tuned for more stories of growth, inspiration, and achievement!
